Year 6, WWII Day

Date: 7th Dec 2023 @ 2:44pm

The pupils in Year 6 had a fabulous day on Tuesday when historian and 'History into School' lead, Richard White came to spend the day with us.

He brought along a truck-load of artefacts for the children to handle and took them journey back to 1939 when the outbreak of war was declared here in Britain.

The children got to handle medals, propaganda posters, shrapnel, bomb bases, bullets, guns, grenades, rationing books, ID cards, evacuees' suitcases, toys from the era and powdered egg!

They also got to practise basic first aid on one another, launch grenades and use stirrup pumps to extinguish incendiary bombs...what a day!

I think it is fair to say that the pupils in Year 6 had an exciting and extremely informative day and that the activities delivered supported their classroom learning perfectly.
