Year 6 Crucial Crew – Learning Important Life Skills
Date: 5th Mar 2026 @ 7:53am
Yesterday, Year 6 took part in Crucial Crew. It was a really interesting experience where we learned lots of life skills that will help us stay safe and healthy.
One session was about safety on public transport with the transport police. They told us about the dangers of bus surfing, which is when someone rides on the outside of a bus. This is very dangerous and can lead to serious injuries. They reminded us that buses should only be used safely by sitting or standing inside the vehicle.
We also had a session about eating healthily and looking after our bodies. We learned that having a balanced diet is really important. This means eating different types of food like fruit, vegetables, proteins and carbohydrates. Healthy food gives us energy, helps us grow and helps us concentrate in school.
Another topic we learned about was knife crime. The instructors explained why knives are dangerous and why it’s important to stay away from them and make safe choices. They also told us that even carrying a knife can get you into serious trouble with the police, because it is against the law and could put other people in danger.
Some of our parents have told us that they remember going to Crucial Crew when they were in primary school, and that they still remember the safety messages from that day.
Crucial Crew helped us learn how to make good choices, stay safe and look after ourselves. It was a great experience and we learned lots of important things that will help us as we grow up.
