Nursery 11.5.2020

Date: 11th May 2020 @ 8:28am

Good morning Nursery children!

I hope that you all had a good weekend! Did anybody have a special party with their neighbours on Friday for VE day? Our street didn’t which was a shame so we had a mini-celebration in our back garden with a BBQ instead. It was delicious!

As it’s Monday, I’ll give you a few ideas of activities that you could be getting on with throughout the week.

Story of the week

This week I have chosen a great story for you to read at home. It’s called ‘Supertato’ by Sue Hendra. It’s about an evil pea and a superhero potato who saves the day! Here’s a video of it being read out loud if you don’t have it at home.

Creative Challenge

For your creative task this week, I want you to make your own ‘Supertato’ and ‘Evil Pea’ so that you can act out the story. If you can’t use a real potato because Mummy and Daddy need it for tea, you could always draw your own characters on some cardboard and cut them out.

In the story, Evil Pea gets up to all sorts of mischief such as sticking Carrot to the conveyor belt, drawing on Broccoli’s face and wrapping Cucumber up in tissue paper. Luckily Superato is there to save his vegetable friends. I wonder what your Evil Pea will get up to and how your Supertato will save the day?

Phonics

On the Read Write Inc YouTube challenge, each sound being taught this week is a new sound. These will be the focus sounds for each day:

11.5.2020 – x (this will be our sound for the handwriting challenge tomorrow)

12.5.2020 - sh

13.5.2020 - th

14.5.2020 - ch

15.5.2020 – qu

These videos will be particularly useful as they will introduce the children to digraphs (sounds made up of 2 letters). This is brand new for them as we have only looked at single letter sounds so far.

Class discussion

This week, as well as being a space to post any news or share photographs of what you have been up to with your friends, I thought that I would give our class discussion a bit of a focus. It has been inspired by Niamh and her homemade slime from last week. The focus is:

‘What could we make?’

If you have made anything easy and fun at home such as slime, playdough or even cookies, see if Mummy or Daddy could tell the rest of us how you made it. It might give us some ideas about what we could do at home if we’re running out of ideas!

Have a great day 😊
