Instructional Writing

In Team 1, we have been reading the book, ‘How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth’.

In class, we then followed these instructions and washed our very own teddy woolly mammoth, which the children found hilarious. Next, the children wrote some great instructions for how to do this.

The children then had fun using this knowledge of instructional writing and sequence words, to write their very own instructions on how to wash an animal of their choice.

This led into a lesson of making the Queen’s favourite sandwich (history link), which of course is cucumber. As you can see from the pictures, the children absolutely loved this lesson particularly because they got to eat their creation at the end of it. Arthur said, ‘This is the best lesson ever!’

Finally, using some great descriptive words the children wrote instructions for our Reception class on how to make a delicious cucumber sandwich. I was really impressed with how well they all worked and the quality of their writing. Well done Team 1!
