i-Reach Helps Year 6 Prepare for High School
Date: 5th Jun 2026 @ 8:31am
This week, Year 6 were visited by i-Reach, who delivered a helpful workshop about managing worries as we get ready for the transition to high school.
During the session, we explored the difference between real worries and "what if" worries. Real worries are concerns that are happening now and can often be solved by taking action or asking for help. "What if" worries are thoughts about things that might happen in the future, but often have not happened and may never happen.
We took part in discussions and activities that helped us identify different types of worries and think about positive ways to manage them. We learned that it is normal to feel nervous about moving to a new school, meeting new teachers, and making new friends. Sharing our thoughts helped us realise that many of our classmates have similar feelings.
i-Reach also gave us useful strategies for dealing with worries, including talking to trusted adults, focusing on facts rather than assumptions, and thinking about the things we can control. These techniques will help us feel more confident as we prepare for this exciting next step in our education.
The workshop was engaging, informative, and reassuring. Year 6 left feeling better equipped to handle their worries and more excited about starting high school in September.
