26.11.21 COLLECTIVE WORSHIP: THE CROSS - A SYMBOL OF FORGIVENESS.

Date: 26th Nov 2021 @ 1:51pm

Thoughtful Book Responses

Over this half-term we are looking at the Christian value of forgiveness. This week we listened to the Bible story of The Emmaus Road from Luke 24. After listening to the story, the children had to explain why the symbol of the cross is so important to Christians. As always, they had some great ideas:

‘The cross symbolises love and faith. It shows that Jesus sacrificed himself for us.’ James Y3.

‘The cross is a symbol of forgiveness. When the Romans killed Jesus he forgave them. It also represents how Jesus died and that he was resurrected. He trusted God and came back to life.’ Esme C Y4.

‘To Christians, the cross acts as a reminder that we should show faith and love in one another. One of the most important things Jesus taught his followers was to forgive others. The Bible says that Jesus’ final words as he died on the cross were ones forgiving the people who had put him there.’ Anniyah Y5.

‘The cross is an important symbol to all Christians. This is because Jesus sacrificed himself for us and died on the cross. It is a symbol of peace and forgiveness. It is more than just a cross, it is Christianity.’ Jay Y6.

Home Worship Book Activities

All of our infant and junior children have a special home worship book. If they want to, they can use it to put in any thoughts, reflections or prayers in whatever form they choose - drawings, writing or photos. This can be linked into our weekly worship theme or just be something that has come from them. They might want to link it into one of our weekly Bible stories, such as the story of The Emmaus Road.
