Year 3 at All Saints Church

Date: 22nd Mar 2023 @ 2:55pm

This morning, the children in Year 3 walked down to All Saints Church in the nice, warm sunshine, to take part in the 10 a.m. service.  This was our second trip to church.  When we arrived, we were greeted by Father Jeremy and took our places at the front of the congregation.

The children joined in the service and read from the service sheet, participating when the other regular church-goers did. There was a lot of sitting down and standing up again.

In the middle of the service, the children were invited to share their learning with everyone; discussing Lent and its importance for Christians.  The children were able to quote chapters and verses from the bible, citing stories such as Jesus’s time in the wilderness from the book of Matthew. We finished with a thoughtful prayer.

Father Jeremy gave us all a special blessing before the congregation took Holy Communion.

We really enjoyed the crisps and drinks afterwards, a just reward for all our efforts.

Here’s what some of the children thought.

“I was scared to read out at first but Mr T said I would be great at this made me more confident.”

“When I saw my parents, I knew I had to enjoy my moment in front of the congregation.”

“I learned that churches have different prayers and readings for each service.”

“Father Jeremy and the table were dressed in purple, which is a church colour for Lent.”

“Jesus had a lot of self-discipline surviving 40 days and nights in the desert.”

“Jesus is there to help us during Lent and we remember him dying on the cross on Good Friday.”

“I loved the crisps and drink.”

Thank you to those parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters who came to support us.

I was so proud of the behaviour and confidence, when speaking, of all the children.

They were a real credit to us all.
