Year 2 Update 30.04.20

Date: 30th Apr 2020 @ 9:48am

Good Morning Year 2 parents/carers,

Today's blog is specifically for you.

It was so nice to speak to some of you yesterday.  If I haven’t had a chance to chat with you yet, either last week or yesterday or I had to leave a voicemail, I will endeavour to contact you next week, when I am in school.  I will notify you, through my blog, which day this is, so if you get a phone call on that day it might be me (remember school’s number comes up as a private number).

One thing that I tried to say to parents yesterday, and as a school we want to reiterate, is that I appreciate how hard you are all working with your children and I understand that it is not always possible to upload work, respond to work or do everything, but that is fine.  I have set lots of different tasks to give you variety, so I want to reassure you that you must not feel like you have to do everything every day.  I am just giving you options and you must do what you feel works best for you, for your child and for your routine.

Lots of you are working from home and it is difficult to do your own work and teach your child at the same time – I know from personal experience how challenging this can be.  Also, don’t feel that you can’t set your child off on a task, do your own work and leave them to get on with.  You do not have to ‘hold their hand’ through every piece of work.  Independence is good for them.  I am sure if they really need help they will come and ask.  Their work does not have to take numerous hours and be flawless – a little bit of learning is better than no learning at all.  Please do not feel under pressure to perfectly teach your child every day.  Some days you may get through everything and other days you may do nothing, but this is ok!  You can write that day off and start again the next day.  Tomorrow is always a new day!

And I want to remind you again, these are unprecedented times and we are all doing the best we can in these extraordinary circumstances.  Remember you are working hard and are all doing an extremely good job!

And to finish – to show you that we are all struggling.  It just took me 35 minutes to write this blog and then my little boy Archie asked (shouted) “what’s for breakfast?” As I answered him politely (shouted back) that he’d have to wait 5 minutes as I needed to post my blog I forgot to press save!  Aagghh! L  So I have just had to rewrite it, trying to remember what I wrote last time!  So he’s now had a 40 minute wait for breakfast instead of 5.  Come to think of it, he’s actually old enough to pour his own coco-pops into a bowl….. J J

Hope this is not an example of how the rest of my day is going to continue! J

Have a great day everyone!
