Safer Internet Day 2026: Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI.
Date: 13th Feb 2026 @ 1:46pm
This week, our school proudly took part in Safer Internet Day 2026, a global event that encourages children and young people to stay safe, responsible and respectful online.
With technology changing so quickly, we focused this year on the safe and positive use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
What Is AI?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is technology that can think, learn and make suggestions. Many children already use AI without even realising it! For example:
- Voice assistants like Amazon Alexa and Apple Siri
- Video recommendations on YouTube
- Online tools such as ChatGPT
AI can help us learn, create stories, solve problems and explore new ideas — but it’s important to use it wisely.
What We Learned
Throughout the week, pupils across all year groups took part in activities and discussions about:
Keeping personal information private
Checking that information online is accurate
Using AI to support learning — not replace thinking
Being kind and respectful online
Knowing when to speak to a trusted adult
Children explored real-life scenarios and discussed how AI can sometimes make mistakes. They learned that although AI can be helpful, it is not human, it does not have emotions and does not always get things right.
