Good morning 😊

I hope that you all managed to get outside in the sunshine yesterday. I made some homemade burgers for our BBQ and they were delicious!

As I am in school tomorrow and then it would have been half term next week, this will be my last blog for a while. Therefore, I will post a project for you to have a go at over the next week (and for a few weeks after too!).

First of all, watch this episode of Big Barn Farm to give you an idea of what you will be doing.

Over the holidays, I want you to have a go at planting a seed and watching it grow into your very own sunflower. You will need:

- A plant pot or a yoghurt pot with a few holes in the bottom

- Compost

- Sunflower seeds

- A watering-can to keep your plant watered

With the help of a grown up, plant your sunflower in the compost by filling your pot with compost, poking your finger into the middle, dropping a sunflower seed into the hole and then covering it back up. Place it on the window-sill and give it a little water every day. After a week or so, you should see a seedling start to sprout. Watch your plant as it grows and changes from a seed to a sunflower over the next few weeks.

After a while, your sunflower will get too big for the pot. At this point, plant it somewhere in your garden where it will get lots of sunshine over summer. I wonder whose sunflower will grow to be the tallest over summer.

Here is a useful website with step-by-step instructions and tips about how to get the tallest sunflower.

Enjoy planting your sunflower seeds! I’d love to see photos of them as they start to grow and change.

I hope you all have a wonderful week next week and I will speak to you all again very soon,

Keep safe!
