PSHE in Year 3

Children’s Mental Health Week 2023

Monday 6th – Friday 10th February

Children’s Mental Health Week shines a spotlight on the importance of children and young people’s mental health.  Schools, families and communities across the UK will take part in Children’s Mental Health Week. This year’s theme is ‘Let’s Connect.’

In Year 3 we have considered who we are connected to and how we feel about these people.  We joined these people together with our ‘invisible string’ and discussed our special links with the class.

We also wondered who we might be connected with in the class.

Who has the same colour eyes as me?

What pets do you have?

I wonder of anyone likes dancing?

Does anyone speak a different language just like me?

These were just a few of the questions we asked ourselves so we could get connected with each other.  The bingo was great fun too.

I busted some rather dodgy moves and showed the children how dancing and singing can improve your mental health, especially when it’s with others.  I didn’t care that my dad dancing was terrible and neither did they. The Macarena and Cha Cha Slide are great getting those endorphins going.

Here’s what the children thought.

‘I liked having a good dance with each other. It was fun’

‘We all laughed at Mr Ts dancing but he didn’t mind.’

‘We can connect to anyone.  We feel it when we are connected.’

‘I was surprised how many people I am connected to.’

‘I enjoyed drawing around our hand and sharing our own connections.’

Maybe this week and over the weekend, you can make some different kinds of connections with friends and family.  How about getting into nature with a stroll in the countryside or a watching birds in the garden.  Maybe a bite to eat together around the dinner table and some fun board games or lunch out and visit a relative.

If you do connect this weekend, be sure to come and tell me all about it on Monday morning.

Do things that make you happy.

And stay connected.
