Maths in Year 3

Maths No Problem

Multiplication and Division

Over the last few weeks, we have been solving problems using our multiplication and division skills. To help us understand more clearly, we have used counters to show that multiplication is simply repeated addition.

We are using many different strategies such as number lines, bar models and, of course, our ever-growing knowledge of 3, 4 and 8 times tables.

“We can find an answer by adding another 3.

So, 7 x 3 = 21 then 8 x 3 = 21 + 3 = 24.” Phoebe

“We can sometimes double our answer.

So, 9 x 3 = 27 then 18 x 3 = 27 + 27 = 54.” Ashley

“I am practising my 3s 4s and 8s at home so I can improve my test score.”  Skyler

“I enjoy my times tables and I am even learning my 6s and 7s at home too.” Evie and Ellie

“My times tables has helped me with my challenges.  I tried a challenge but made a mistake.  It’s always good to make mistakes because I learned from it.” Holly

Year 3 has also created some great journaling and tackled daily challenges which are all displayed on our Maths Working Wall and in their books.

Next, Year 3 will be multiplying and dividing with two digit numbers and solving 2 step problems.
