Lowry Portraits

Date: 9th Sep 2019 @ 3:46pm

A very warm welcome to all the children and parents into Year 3.

During the first week we have painted self-portraits in the style of L.S. Lowry.

A local artist, Lawrence Stephen Lowry was born in Stretford, Manchester. He is one of the most popular British artists of the 20th Century.

Lowry studied his art in Salford and fell in love with the towns in the north west of England.

He is famous for painting industrial landscapes on the North of England, including Salford.

Lowry also painted stick figures known as matchstick men and painted very distinctive portraits too.  We have based our own portraits on one of Lowry’s pieces called ‘Head of a Man with Red Eyes’ and learned how to draw faces that are proportionally accurate.

I think you’ll agree, they are absolute masterpieces.
