Looking For Microhabitats

Date: 14th Feb 2024 @ 1:42pm

In Year 2 we have been studying 'habitats'.  We went around school and took pictures of some 'microhabitats'.  We found leaf litter, soil, rock piles, log piles, grass and tree stumps.  Then we carefully observed these microhabitats to see if we could find any minibeasts.   Each microhabitat had its own inhabitants which included worms, ants, spiders, earwigs, snails and wood louse.  We managed to photograph some of the minibeasts, ensuring we were gentle with them and left them safely in their microhabitats afterwards.  Some minibeasts were a little camera shy and fled before the children could take their pictures.  However, we are going to try and take some more pictures in smaller, 'quieter' groups next time, to see what other minibeasts we can find in our school environment.
