International Day of Mathematics 2023

Date: 14th Mar 2023 @ 2:22pm

Year 5 celebrated the International Day of Mathematics.  The theme “Mathematics for Everyone”. This reflects that the planet shares one mathematical language, which is the language of science.

What really shone through was the engagement and desire to solve and explain problems.  We spent the morning looking at a variety of problems and how maths is used in every day life.

The children showed lots of resilience and perseverance to complete a Dymaxion map, or Fuller map, which shows the world as an unfolded icosahedron (we had to look it up too!)

Each child also completed an IMD poster focussing on an element of mathematics - the children will vote for their favourite and the winner will be announced shortly.

"Good mathematics is not about how many answers you know... It's about how you behave when you don't know."
