Design and Technology: Flatbreads
Date: 20th Nov 2025 @ 4:25pm
This half term, we have begun focussing on the key question, 'Why are our diets so different?' In this unit, the children have looked to Middle Eastern and Danish foods for inspiration, and have made some delicious flatbreads!
Thank you for your support in bringing the required equipment and helping your children cook them at home.
If anybody would like to recreate the flatbreads at home, the recipe is as follows:
- 100g plain flour
- 1 tsp olive oil
- Pinch of salt
- Cold water
- 25g butter
- 1/2 clove garlic
- 1/4 lemon
- Mix together the flour, salt and olive oil
- Add cold water a little at a time and mix with a table knife until a soft dough is formed
- Knead the dough for 2 minutes.
- Grate the butter, crush the garlic and zest the lemon.
- Mix the butter, garlic and lemon zest into a paste.
- Heat a griddle or frying pan.
- Split the dough into 4 – 6 pieces and roll each piece into a rough circle.
- Brush with olive oil and cook on each side for 1 – 2 minutes.
- Spread the garlic butter on the hot bread.
