Design Technology

The children have had tremendous amounts of fun learning about windmills and then designing and making their own for a client mouse. This was linked to the song ‘Windmill in Old Amsterdam’.

In the song, a single mouse lives in an old windmill. Eventually, it becomes full of mice and they need to move out and find their own windmills…this is where the children came in.

While in the designing process, the children had to consider what would attract their clint to their windmill. The children talked about how mice love cheese, so parts of their windmill could be yellow. Some children added a ‘No Cats Allowed!’ sign to their front door and others added flowers so that it would smell and look more appealing.

The children then made their windmills demonstrating a range of cutting and shaping techniques (such as tearing, cutting, folding).  Finally, they tested them outside to see if their turbines rotated in the wind. When they evaluated their project, they discussed what they did well and what they would do next time to improve it.

They all work very hard on their project - as always. They really are the most wonderful class and I am truly grateful to be their teacher.

Thank you Team 1 ?
