Anti-Bullying Week 2021

Date: 16th Nov 2021 @ 2:55pm

As this week is 'Anti-bullying week', the school have been raising awareness about what bullying is and what we can do about it. The children here at Wardley know that bullying behaviour will not be tolerated at any time and that they should speak out about it to a trusted friend or adult if it ever happens.

Today the children and staff have come into school wearing odd socks and it has been wonderful to see so many colours and individual styles. These 'odd socks' represent everyone's individuality and differences as we learn about being tolerant and accepting towards everyone.

The children in key stage 2 also enjoyed a fantastic production from the Christian theatre group, 'The B-Tales', who performed a magnificent play all about bullying and what we can do to prevent it. The children thoroughly enjoyed the play and it raised many interesting questions. At one point, the actors were 'bullying' one of the characters and the situation became uncomfortable. It was so pleasing to see our children immediately change their mood from one of laughter and silliness to a more sombre and distressing tone. One child even called out for the actors to 'Stop it!' because they were so engrossed in the drama and knew that what they were witnessing was wrong. This was incredibly heart-warming to see and hear and proved to be a valuable lesson.

All of the children will be completing follow-up work in their PSHE journals. This year, we are focusing on, 'One Kind Word' and how this can make a huge difference to someone. The children in Year 6 also generated some anti-bullying posters which you can see in out photo gallery.

As a school, we are incredibly proud of our children and the kindness and acceptance that they show towards one another. Although this anti-bullying week, we as a school are 'anti-bullying' each and every day.
