31st March 2017

Our theme this half term in Science has been ‘Treasure Island’ and we have been learning all about materials, plants, animals and humans.

This week we carried out an investigation looking closely at different materials. Our job was to build a raft that would float on water and that would carry some weight.

We tested different materials including wood, plastic, paper and fabric. After that, we chose materials to build our rafts. Finally, we were able to test out rafts to find out whether they floated and how many bears they would rescue.

Shea said: The wooden raft floated on top of the water. The bears were safe and dry.

Annie said: The cardboard raft sunk because it got all wet and soggy. All of the bears got wet and fell off the raft.
